A person who gains the ability to catch monsters is called a 'player'.
The protagonist also becomes a player and on his way home, he sees his village on fire.
He, the weakest of the players, '1st Class', enters the village where monsters are rampant and fights them.
As expected, he almost dies from monsters that are much stronger than him, but a mysterious power saves him.
After that, he gains the ability called 'Terrain Manipulator' and lives with another terrain manipulator.
Terrain Manipulators are a rare profession and they fall into many difficulties.
I am an ordinary Korean middle school student. To be honest, I’m not particularly interested in books. Instead, I spend a lot of my free time reading fantasy webtoons on my phone. There’s something about the colorful visuals, the fast-paced action, and the incredible worlds that webtoon creators bring to life that keeps me captivated. These stories unfold in such dynamic and exciting ways that I often find myself completely absorbed, eagerly waiting for the next episode to drop.
Webtoons have always sparked my imagination. I love to picture myself in those fantastical worlds, creating new scenarios and characters. One day, while letting my mind wander, I started imagining what it would be like to control the very ground beneath me. What if I could make mountains rise and fall with a wave of my hand? What if I could summon trees out of nowhere, their roots twisting and expanding at my command? What if I could launch fire into the sky, igniting everything in a brilliant blaze? These thoughts thrilled me, and I found myself lost in the idea of people who could manipulate terrain itself.
This led me to the concept of terrain manipulators—individuals with the power to shape the earth, plants, fire, and even water to their will. The possibilities felt endless, and I couldn’t stop thinking about how such powers could shape a world, its conflicts, and its heroes. I wanted to share these ideas with others and bring this world to life.
However, there was a challenge. I love webtoons, but I’m not very good at drawing. I realized that if I couldn’t illustrate my story, I would have to find another way to express it. That’s when I decided to write a novel. Even though novels don’t have pictures, I hope my words can create vivid images in your mind, just like the panels of a webtoon. I want you to feel the ground tremble, see the trees burst forth, and experience the heat of roaring flames as if you were right there.
This novel is my attempt to capture the thrill of webtoons in written form. It’s a challenge, but one I’m excited to take on. Through this story, I want to share the joy of imagining and the excitement of seeing that imagination come to life. I hope that as you read, you’ll feel the same sense of wonder that I felt when dreaming up this world of terrain manipulators.
